Mary Cahill FTAI, ICP
Qualifications: BSc Social Science, MSc Social Work, MSc Systemic Psychotherapy.
Professional Training: Mary trained as a Social Worker for 5 years in University College Dublin and qualified in May 2000. Following 16 years of experience working with young people and their families, Mary committed to a four-year training course in Systemic Psychotherapy (Family Therapy) also in University College Dublin and completed this course in 2019.
Experience: Mary has 25 years of experience working with young people and families who have experienced emotional distress and family conflict. She has a background in Child Protection work and has worked with young people living in foster care and residential homes. Mary has also worked for 10 years in Child and Adolescent Mental Health and more recently in Palliative Care specialising in grief and loss.
Approach: Mary works with people experiencing any relationship difficulty, including family communication breakdowns, parental seperation and divorce. She works with people who have experienced trauma or bereavement in their lives. Mary offers therapy to those with mental health issues especially anxiety, depression and eating disorders.
Mary has an excellent understanding and approach to working with young people through adolescence and into young adulthood. She has experience in the area of gender identity and the emotional challenges involved. Mary has facilitated groups for parents and adolescents who have struggled with the challenges of daily functioning and communication.
Mary offers a warm collaborative approach to therapy and engages in conversations that can create safety and introduce difference, through rich meaningful dialogue. In therapy Mary explores all aspects of a person's life, identifies available strengths and resources to bring about change and work with challenges in their lives.
Mary works with individuals, couples, families and groups.
